Tom and Jean Hodgson went to England last summer and made a stop at Kimber House, home of The MG Car Club, in Abingdon, Oxford U.K.

This is a brief synopsis of their visit which may help other members who are planning to tour England and visit Kimber House.

VISIT TO KIMBER HOUSE HOME OF THE MG CAR CLUB

IN ABINGDON, OXFORD. U.K.

We arrived on August 3rd  2010 to be met by  Chris Seaward. Deputy Editor of Safety Fast, the club magazine.

Chris gave us a tour of the offices including the new John Thornley meeting room.

They have a room full of old files on all the early cars. If an owner wished, they could get copies of all correspondence to and from the company for per-war cars. For the “T” series, they have a list of how the car left the factory. e.g. the type or level of tuning at that time. Peter who once worked at the factory is slowly going through all the old files in stock.

They have a good collection of model cars donated by members and member clubs. There are badges from all over the world. 

Many of Cecil Kimber’s office items such as his coat, telephone, briefcase and notebooks have yet to be sorted in to a museum situation.

We found the gift shop a bit sparse. They had no shirts with the club logo that I could buy. Chris explained that it was due to high demand at shows recently.

Julian White the club’s General Manager says we can become affiliated at Headwaters British Car Club since several clubs affiliated are already multi- marque clubs. This would cost about 40 pounds per year. We would get 12 copies of Safety Fast included. This may interest our MG drivers who may not want to buy their own memberships.
